Sarn Helen - Tom Bullough

  • Yr Hengwrt, 8 Carmarthen Road Llandeilo (map)

Sarn Helen, the winner of Wales Book of the Year 2024, is a powerful and immersive work by author Tom Bullough that chronicles his walk along the ancient Roman road of the same name, which stretches from Neath in the south to Caerhun on the north Wales coast.

This evocative non-fiction narrative not only traces the path of the road but also serves as a profound meditation on Wales’ past, present, and future, weaving together history, personal reflection, and pressing contemporary concerns, particularly around the climate crisis.

The beauty of the natural world, so richly described, is contrasted against the growing urgency of environmental destruction and the uncertain future we face if the climate crisis is left unaddressed.

This session will be chaired by Owen Sheers.
