Jenni Crane is a respected BBC producer and broadcaster. She will be discussing the life and work of her hero, Myfanwy Haycock (1913-1963), a talented and pioneering poet from Jenni Crane’s home town of Pontypool. Haycock, though highly regarded in her time, has largely been forgotten in the years following her death, but Crane is on a mission to reintroduce her work to a contemporary audience.

Haycock was a gifted poet, illustrator, journalist, and BBC broadcaster, and during the mid-twentieth century, she carved out a unique voice in Welsh literature. Her poetry, captured the world around her with an emotional depth and clarity that resonated deeply with readers. Her work explored themes of nature, love, dreams, and mourning, and was known for its striking imagery and lyrical beauty. In her journalism, she was also outspoken, addressing societal issues with a frankness that was rare for women writers at the time.
