About the Llandeilo Lit Fest
This year's Llandeilo Lit Fest features a stellar lineup of authors, poets, storytellers, biographers and playwrights. Learn something new at our creative hands-on workshops, immerse your kids in the world of storytelling with our first-ever dedicated children's festival, and hear talks in both Welsh and English from some of Wales’ most celebrated writers of fiction and nonfiction.
Mae Gŵyl Lên Llandeilo eleni yn cynnwys arlwy gwych o awduron, beirdd, storïwyr, cofianwyr a dramodwyr. Dysgwch rywbeth newydd yn ein gweithdai ymarferol creadigol, ymdrochwch eich plant ym myd adrodd straeon gyda'n gŵyl gyntaf erioed i blant, a chlywed sgyrsiau yn Gymraeg a Saesneg gan rai o awduron ffuglen a ffeithiol enwocaf Cymru.
Kids Fest
We are very excited that this year the Llandeilo Lit Fest will include Kids Fest - Llandeilo’s first children’s literature festival – a celebration of children’s storytelling in Wales.
Yr Hen Farchnad will be the venue for two days of creative events to fire the imagination. There will be talks and workshops from award winning Welsh writers in Welsh and English, and lots of hands-on art and craft. Children will be able to take part in book binding, printing, pottery, textiles, illustration, calligraphy, performance and creative writing. Academy Award Winning Aardman Animation will hold model making and animation workshops and there will be storytelling, quiet spaces for reading and opportunities for swapping books.
The Kids Fest team have been working with local schools over the last few months on creative projects leading up to the festival weekend. On the day before the festival there will be a school’s workshop held in Llandeilo Primary School including five local primary schools - Years 3-6.
During the day, Bardd Plant Cyrmru Nia Morais and Children’s laureate Alex Wharton will hold poetry workshops alongside storyteller Ceri Phillips and there will be creative writing, performance and illustration workshops.
Gŵyl y Plant
Rydym yn edrych ymlaen eleni i gyflwyno Gŵyl y Plant fel rhan o Ŵyl Lenyddiaeth Llandeilo am y tro cyntaf, fydd yn dathlu straeon plant yng Nghymru.
Yr Hen Farchnad bydd y lleoliad am ddau ddiwrnod llawn o ddigwyddiadau creadigol i sbarduno’r dychymyg. Bydd sgyrsiau a gweithdai gan awduron arobryn yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg, yn ogystal â sesiynau celf a chrefft. Bydd cyfle i’r plant gymryd rhan mewn gweithdai rhwymo llyfrau, argraffu, crochenwaith, tecstilau, darlunio, caligraffi, perfformio ac ysgrifennu creadigol. Bydd Aardman Animation, cwmni sydd wedi ennill Gwobr Academi yn cynnal gweithdai creu modeli ac animeiddio, a bydd sesiynau stori, a llefydd tawel i ddarllen a chyfle i gyfnewid llyfrau.
Mae Gŵyl y Plant wedi bod yn cydweithio gydag ysgolion lleol dros y misoedd diwethaf ar brosiectau creadigol yn arwain at benwythnos yr ŵyl. Yn ystod y diwrnod cyn yr ŵyl, bydd gweithdai yn cael eu cynnal yn Ysgol Gynradd Llandeilo ar gyfer blynyddoedd 3 - 6 ym mhump o’r ysgolion cynradd lleol.
Yn ystod y dydd, bydd Bardd Plant Cymru, Nia Morais, a’r Children’s Laureate Wales, Alex Wharton yn cynnal gweithdai barddoni ar y cyd gyda’r cyfarwydd Ceri Phillips, yn ogystal â gweithdai ysgrifennu creadigol, perfformio a darlunio.
Our history
In 2016, a group of local authors got together and organised a book fair in Llandeilo’s Civic Hall. Each author had a small stall, and the group held a selection of readings and workshops during the day. All with the desire to get their books to an audience ever more difficult to reach in the Amazon style of book selling online.
With help from local Welsh speaker Gaynor Jones in 2017 this evolved into a proper Lit Fest with a focus on local Welsh themes and Welsh language. It grew fast in size and scope, inviting speakers from further afield, with a mix of local talent and bigger names. It picked up a diverse range of topics - politics, the environment, gender, art, music, history etc.
The first Lit Fest weekend included over 40 different events, branching out into town, using the function room at the Angel Inn, the Horeb Chapel, Fountain Fine Art Gallery, Oriel Mimosa, the Ginhaus and the Cottage Inn to name a few. In 2019 over 1000 visitors came to Llandeilo and the festival won the Carmarthenshire Excellence in Culture Award for a second time in a row.
Sadly, the 2020 event had to be cancelled due to Covid and in 2021 it had to be held online only. However, in 2022 the festival took a leap of faith and held a smaller but hybrid event, entirely in Hengwrt but streaming half the sessions on the Internet.
Thanks to its success in 2022 and generous, faithful sponsors, 2023 saw the return to a full-scale event with the reintroduction of evening performances, there was a Pot Fest at the Lit Fest and events were held again all over town, at Oriel Mimosa, Diod, Flows, The White Hart and the Warehouse.
From the start in 2017 we defined ourselves as a multi genre, local and Welsh festival with as many Welsh language events as possible and providing simultaneous translation of as many Welsh events into English as possible. Where the language isn’t Welsh, the theme usually is. Our talks spark important conversations and debates affecting our lives in Wales and we are proud to be the only festival in Wales with such a focus on Welsh literature. This year almost 40% of our talks will be in the Welsh language, with English translation available for most. We have a goal to reach 50% Welsh language for next years’ festival.

Yn 2016, daeth grŵp o awduron lleol at ei gilydd yn Llandeilo i drefnu ffair lyfrau i’w gynnal yn Neuadd Ddinesig y dref. Bryd hynny, roedd gan bob awdur ei stondin ei hun a chynhaliwyd nifer fach o ddarlleniadau a gweithdai.
Y flwyddyn ganlynol, gyda chymorth Gaynor Jones o Landeilo, datblygodd y ffair fechan yn Ŵyl Len â ffocws ar yr iaith Gymraeg a themâu Cymreig. Mae’r ŵyl wedi tyfu o flwyddyn i flwyddyn, ac erbyn hyn yn denu awduron, siaradwyr ac ymwelwyr o bell ac agos. O nofelau a barddoniaeth i wleidyddiaeth a hanes, celf, coginio a cherddoriaeth, mae’r digwyddiad yn parhau i ddathlu gweithiau ysgrifenedig o bob math. Yn 2019, daeth dros 1,000 o ymwelwyr i Landeilo i fwynhau gwledd o sesiynau, a bellach mae’r ŵyl wedi ennill Gwobr Rhagoriaeth Diwylliant Sir Gaerfyrddin ddwywaith.
Yn anffodus am resymau amlwg, bu’n rhaid canslo Gŵyl Len 2020, a threfnwyd sesiynau ar-lein yn 2021. Yn 2022 cynhaliwyd digwyddiad hybrid, gyda hanner y sesiynau ar-lein a’r gweddill yn Hengwrt, sef canolfan gymunedol yn nghanol Llandeilo.
Diolch i waith parhaus a noddwyr haul, dychwelodd yr ŵyl yn ei lawn yn ogoniant yn 2023, ac ailgyflwynwyd digwyddiadau mawreddog gyda’r nos. Oedd y sesiwn ‘Pot Fest at the Lit Fest’, sef dathliad o waith serameg y crochenydd enwog Keith Brymer Jones, yn boblogaidd iawn! Yn ogystal, cynhaliwyd nifer o ddigwyddiadau difyr yn Hengwrt, Oriel Mimosa, Diod, Flows, Y Neuadd Ddinesig, The White Hart, heb anghofio am y noson hudolus honno o adrodd straeon yn Y Warws.
Yn ychwanegol i ddegau o sgyrsiau difyr, bydd Gŵyl Lên Llandeilo 2024 yn cynnwys gofod arbennig i blant yn Yr Hen Farchnad, sydd ond dafliad carreg o Hengwrt, ar Stryd Caerfyrddin. Bydd amrywiaeth o weithgareddau yno i ddiddanu’r teulu, gan gynnwys perfformiadau, darlunio, celf a chrefft, gweithdai ysgrifennu a sgyrsiau gan awduron.
Eleni, bydd bron i 40% o sgyrsiau Gŵyl Lên Llandeilo yn y Gymraeg, a gwasanaeth cyfieithu i’r Saesneg yn y mwyafrif. Mae’n uchelgais gan y pwyllgor i drefnu gŵyl gyda 50% o’r sesiynau yn y Gymraeg erbyn 2025.
Os ydych yn siaradwr Cymraeg ac yn angerddol am lenyddiaeth, hoffwn eich gwahodd i ddod yn ran o bwyllgor yr ŵyl. Rydym hefyd yn chwilio am bobl i ymuno a’n pwyllgor a fyddai’n fodlon cynorthwyo gyda’n cyfryngau cymdeithasol.
